Work Begins

13/8/2014

Work has started on the Pauanui to Tairua Trail.

Groundwork to open a working space off the road opposite the Lakes Resort entrance on Hikuai Settlement Road began on Wednesday, August 13,

Trail Chairman Gary Fowler says this is a major move forward and follows the granting of resource consent by the Waikato Regional Council. The consent approves Trail construction to the Duck Creek area.

"Our dream is starting to take shape," he said.

Mr Fowler said there was another piece of "great" news from the Regional Council who have remitted fees involved with the resource consent.

"This amounts to $9200 which means we will be able to spend this money on trail development.

"Once we have the working area sorted we can move to construction of some of the Trail."

Mr Fowler says discussions are under way to build a bridge over the Tangitarori Stream at the Pauanui end of the Trail.

"We are still seeking funding to complete the Pauanui to Duck Creek section of the trail, but we are sure there are people and organisations out there who can help with this,"  he said.
